Georgia was visited by a record number of tourists in 2018

In 2018, 8.7 million foreign citizens visited Georgia, which is 14.9% more than in 2017, according to the National Tourism Administration. According to the ministry, this is a record figure both in the total number of foreigners and in the number of tourists, that is, those who spent more than 24 hours in the country, the number of which last year increased by 36.7% compared to the previous year - up to 4 , 8 million people.

In 2018, the largest number of foreigners arrived in Georgia from Azerbaijan - 1.4 million people, which is 9.5% more than in 2017. In second place are the citizens of Russia, whose number of visitors to the republic increased by 23.8% - to 1.4 million people, the third place - the citizens of Armenia - 1.3 million people (a decrease of 1%). Next come the citizens of Turkey, Iran, Ukraine, Israel, India, Kazakhstan, Belarus, the United States, China, Germany and other countries.

The report notes that the positive trend of growth in the flow of foreign citizens throughout the past year was maintained from the EU countries, in particular, from Estonia, Slovakia, Romania, the Netherlands, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Italy, the UK, and also from South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the ministry’s information, according to preliminary data, Georgia’s tourism revenues last year rose by $ 300 million, exceeding $ 3 billion.

Georgia, with a population of 3.7 million people, was visited by 7.6 million foreign visitors in 2017, which is 18.5% more than in the previous year, of which 3.5 million were tourists.
