Tbilisi was among the top three destinations for travel in 2018 according to National Geographic.
Editors of the most popular magazine on travel and nature at the end of the year regularly make up a rating of directions that they recommend visiting their readers in the coming year. This time, the list includes 21 destinations.
"Are you looking for your next adventure? The best collections of our editors will help you discover new routes, taste local dishes and get acquainted with the bright nature of the whole world, "says the National Geographic rating description.
In the "Places to be visited in 2018" list, the Georgian capital is on the third line.
"The urban landscape of the Georgian capital is changing at breakneck speed. Traditional pastimes in Georgia are sulfur baths, plump khinkali and legendary hospitality of persistent residents disarmingly spontaneous Old Tbilisi, "the authors of the rating write.
National Geographic believes that the historical part of the Georgian capital has its own unique charm, noting that "the Persian, Arab, Byzantine, Ottoman, Russian and Soviet occupation influenced the Tbilisi architecture".
It should be noted that National Geographic has recognized Georgia for several years in a row as the best destination for travel.
So, in 2016 in the contest of the magazine "Traveler Awards" Georgia won the nomination "Discovery of the Year" and took the second place in the nomination "Best gastronomic tourism".
In 2017, National Geographic included Georgia in the rating "Ten places that deserve more travelers". In addition, the Russian version of National Geographic has dedicated a separate issue of Georgia.
